Information about our dojo, our Philosophy, and Mission Statement.

Here at the Jundokan International traditional Goju Ryu Karate Dojo in the suburbs of Chicago, we strive to adhere to the example of our teacher, Chinen Teruo Sensei.

Philosophy

At our dojo, we strive to lead by example, and help the student facilitate the achievement of their goals. Students will be challenged and encouraged. We believe individuals have all the resources and capabilities for success in karate and life. We want to help you continue to develop those capabilities. For young people, our aim is to support the positive messages that you, as parents, give your child. The importance of respect, school work, and character development are emphasized on a regular basis. Most importantly, youth are encouraged feel good about themselves and their accomplishments. The focus is on improvement of the individual. Young people carry this feeling over into other areas of their lives. Our goal is to facilitate improvement at any age. We want training at the dojo to be enjoyable, yet challenging; powerful, yet safe. Competition with others is not our main focus, rather the goal is self-growth at your own pace. Karate offers a "team" feeling yet it is an individual endeavor.
